*Data taken right from a disk given to the Admiral from this new race of aliens.*
The Kr'Chit are an insectile alien race with an extremely complicated life cycle.
The Kr'Chit originally developed from a hive-insect, similar to a bee or wasp. But sometime around the time they started developing tools, something changed. The Kr'Chit don't speak of it often, but one of their ancient progenitors, their species equivalent of an Austrolopithacene or Cro Magnon, led a revolution, inventing a strange form of socialism and overthrowing the ruling Queen caste. The Kr'Chir breeding caste now exists solely to produce more Kr'Chit, and are not considered citizens, or even true Kr'Chit. They are kept as livestock in large breeding complexes. It is thought that this shift in thinking is what disolved the hive-mind the Kr'Chit's ancient ancestors originally possessed, though this is speculation.
Unfortunately, this arrangement has recently lead to a wide amount of genetic drift, rendering half of the breeders infertile. Many Kr'Chit have left their home and colony worlds in search of new breeding opportunities. Each Kr'Chit has a complicated reproductive system. They reproduce sexually, parasitically, and symbiotically. Their semi-malleable organic structures and highly-regenerative stem cell based physiology allows them to produce veritable miracles of biology, making them capable of reproducing with almost any known species.
Each Kr'Chit actually has 3 methods of reproduction, being semi-hermaphroditic, yet not having wombs of their own (except for the breeder cast). The first, and most obvious is its thingy. The seed it produces is very adaptable and capable of impregnating most insects, mammals, and birds. Reptiles, for some reason, are resistant to this seed. This method of impregnation generally leads to the birth of a Breeder-Caste Kr'Chit, though it takes many of its characteristics from the female it gestates in.
The second method is found in the smaller thingy hidden within the Kr'Chit's tail. This is, in fact, an ovipositor, and is used to plant a clutch of eggs within a female's womb. These eggs, while pre-fertilized inside the hermaphroditic Kr'Chit, latch onto the walls of the womb, growing and feeding from the female as if it were her own child. It absorbs DNA from the mother, and tends to share some minor characteristics with her, but eventually develops into another full Kr'Chit Warrior or Laborer caste. These eggs generally take about two weeks to gestate, but after they are born they remain in their larval stages for a decade, slowly growing larger, before beginning their first metamorphosis into Kr'Chit children.
The third method is an extremely aggressive and virulent form of unfertilized egg. These are produced in a pair of venom sacks in the head, and is injected through a bite. These eggs are usually injected into the scrotum of a male, preferably insectoid or mammalian, and the eggs quickly seek out the testicles and feast upon the seed stored there. These eggs will never develop into a Kr'Chit, but into a breed of small servant-creatures, like small thingyroaches. These Tr'Ka'Tr, as they are known, gestate inside the male's scrotum, exuding a mixture of hormones which numb the pain they inadvertantly cause by swelling the scrotum to accomodate their mass, greatly increase sex drive, cause the Tr'Ka'Tr to feel a sense of primitive loyalty to their 'host' male, and cause the host male to feel a sense of loyalty to any Kr'Chit they encounter. The Tr'Ka'Tr gestate within the male's scrotum for about two days before being birthed through the eurethra, usually forcing their host to orgasm at the same time to ease their exit. After birthing, they generally split into two swarms, those who inheritted their host's X chromasome stay with the host, swarming nearby and crawling over his body, cleaning it, repairing damage, and cleaning his surroundings. Those who inherit his Y chromasome do the same, but tend to wander off randomly, cleaning and repairing any organic structures they come across, which includes most Kr'Chit buildings and ships, as well as any living things they find.
--Note: If the egg-venom is not injected close to the testicles, the eggs aggressivley consume any organic matter they find, causeing minor tissue damage, before shrivelling up and dieing. Oddly, this does NOT happen if the eggs are injected into a female mammal's mammary glands. If injected into Mammaries, the eggs quickly mature within twenty-four hours into a hornet-like creature, amazingly loyal to both Kr'Chit and its host. Once mature, the hornets begin to feed from their host's mammaries, drinking the milk and stimulating increased production, while simultaneously excreting stem cells which they use to increase the size of the hosts breasts, often doubling or tripling them in size, and building a network of honeycombs and hive-nests within. The swarm stays with its host indefinitely, feeding from her and protecting her from predators.--
It should be noted that the Kr'Chit possess several unique abilities, the most amazing of which is the ability to sense radio waves via their antenae. Their acute sense of smell allows them to read the pheromone-markers they use as written language, as well as detect the pheromones of other species nearby. All Kr'Chit are also capable of exuding a scent which many races find pleasant. This special pheromone, which is often described as having a somewhat floral scent, contains powerful narcotic depressants. Originally evolved as a defense mechanism, the Kr'Chit now tend to use it to keep their slaves and mates compliant and comfortable, the scent tends to have a similar effect as marijuana for most species. Kr'Chit also possess an extremely long life span, easily living for several centuries, usually in perfect health as they are capable of regenerating most lost organs or limbs. Being insects, they tend to be remarkably strong, able to lift up to twelve times their body weight under normal gravity conditions, if all six of their upper limbs are brought to bear on the object in question.
